Much history is in the making in Albion, Indiana because it is the seat of Noble County government, and has been since 1846. The town's centerpiece is the Noble County Courthouse, on a well-manicured square surrounded on all sides by businesses and offices.
Historical preservation takes place a block away at the Old Jail Museum, which is owned and operated by the Noble County Historical Society.
Albion has been home to such well-known former residents as E. Ross Adair, the late U.S. congressman and ambassador to Ethiopia, and Willis Eagles, the later U.S. Army general.
Albion has the population of 2284 persons and Noble County has a population of 46,275 persons. The estimated population of the twenty (20) mile trading area of Albion is over 90,000.
Albion is located in a gently rolling area of the north central plains. The area has many small lakes formed during the glacial age. These lakes provide many recreational advantages to the area.
Stars and Stripes Program
The Albion Chamber of Commerce, along with help from the Albion American Legion Post 246, has been purchasing, maintaining and hanging American flags throughout the Town of Albion for nearly 15 years. The flags are hung on street light posts throughout town each year, May through September. This American heritage not
only decorates our small town with patriotism, it helps beautify our streets.
To help offset the rising cost of the flags and accessories, the Chamber started the Stars and Stripes Program where community members pitched in by buying/sponsoring a flag in a loved ones honor or memory. Flags can still be purchased by visiting the Chamber website at albionin.org.
